I think Douglas overlooked the fact that Christians were in the forefront of the movement to free the slaves. Perhaps he also overlooked the fact that Christians more than anyone or any government institution worked to provide aid to the poor and medical aid and institutions of learning. Sometimes passion can blind one to everything else that is going on.
